The City of Abbotsford wants to discuss future economic opportunities in the Fraser Valley region with businesses at a symposium planned for November 20th.
The event has a pretty high profile guest speaker list, including former VANOC CEO John Furlong, former world cup skiier and Telus director of community sports Steve Podborski, minister of finance Mike DeJong, and former minister of finance Colin Hansen.
Furlong has been the subject of allegations of abuse from when he was a teacher in Burns Lake in the late 60′s.
Director of economic development Ken Baerg says organizers did take that into consideration.

“Yeah we certainly kept our finger on the pulse as to what was going on there and at this point they’re just allegations.  There will be due process…but no, we’re still committed to having John Furlong and think he has a lot to offer the audience.”

If you want to take part, you can register by going to abbotsford.ca and following the symposium link.
