The Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre has a great opportunity for non-profit groups looking to bring in some extra cash.
Ovations, the company in charge of the concession stands in the arena, are letting groups come in and work selling food and drinks in exchange for some of the proceeds.
AESC general manager Jason Blumenfeld says there are a few requirements.

“You have to have your FoodSafe.  You have to be trained by Ovations and go through a mandatory orientation.  You have to be 15 years old to work the concession and 19 and have a valid Serving it Right certificate to serve alcohol.  Also there is a minimum requirement that volunteers must work 2-4 events a month for a one year term.”

The Abbotsford Whalers swim club worked almost every event since August of 2011 and have raised over 20 thousand dollars.  Karen Bennett with the Whalers says the money makes a huge difference.

“We’ve had families where every time they go into work, we take the amount that’s earned and give them a portion of it into their fees.  We’ve had some families who have been able to pay off their whole fees for the year and have been able to swim.  And some families who if they had not had this opportunity would not have been able to be part of our club.”
If you want to look in to it, call the AESC and ask for the concession manager.
