download (1)Abbotsford council will be adopting two bylaws today that have been in the news recently. First up, they will finalize the 2015 financial plan, which this year includes a 0.41% property tax decrease. The city was able to offer the decrease because of savings from not having the Abbotsford Heat in town anymore. The other item to be finalized today is regarding bird scare devices, including noise cannons.
The Ministry of Agriculture has approved changes to the bylaw, including that the cannons can only be used between 6:30am and 8pm, that they have to be moved every 4 days, and that they limit the number of times they fire.
Farm owners can be fined if they’re caught breaking the bylaw, and new rules around signage will make it easier for neighbors to report infractions.
