lawn_sprinklerThe City of Abbotsford is tightening the restrictions on water sprinkling for this summer.

It used to be that on your designated days you could water both in the evening and in the morning.

But if a bylaw amendment goes through, that will be cut back to mornings only.

The reason is that because there wasn’t much of a snowpack this year, the City might have to rely on its wells a little more than usual, and to be on the safe side they want to limit how much strain the system gets especially on hot summer days.

Councillor Patricia Ross says mornings are better for watering anyway.

“If you water your plants in the morning, the plant will actuall absorb the water but if you water them in the evening especially in the summer when it’s hot, the water evaporates before the plant has a chance to actually absorb it so it’s a real waste of water.”

Council gave three readings on the bylaw amendment and will vote on approval at a future meeting.
