poultryThe provincial and federal governments have announced $1.58 million dollars in funding to help BC Poultry producers hit by last year’s Avian Influenza epidemic. Garnet Etsell from the BC Poultry Association says the money is huge because there wasn’t an insurance program in place. “There is compensation through the health of animals act. But it doesn’t fully reimburse a producer. So this agri-recovery, although it still doesn’t fully reimburse them, it goes a long way to covering those extraordinary costs such as cleaning and disinfection.” Some of the money will help producers recover those costs, while the rest will go towards providing insurance in the case of future outbreaks.
