The owner of Safeway grocery stores has announced it’s going to close 10 Lower Mainland locations, saying discount stores are making it difficult for them to do business.

One of the stores that will close will be the Safeway in Mission at 32520 Lougheed Hwy.

“It is no secret that many of our stores in B.C. have struggled in recent years,” said an emailed statement from a Sobeys spokesperson to media outlets. “Customer demand for shopping at discount stores continues to grow and we are not adequately serving this need in B.C. today.”

The Mission Safeway will close on May 5th, however, may be re opened as a discount  FreshCo store.
