Death Matters Photography Contest

Feb 28 - May 1

Death is a sensitive, political and emotionally charged ‘silent’ topic in society, but we as members of the public need to learn to talk about the everyday culture of death, dying and bereavement. This contest aims to bring a voice to the silent matters of death by means of a public photography contest in which we will help members of the public, specifically youth, openly talk about diverse matters of death.

This contest is directed towards youth residing in the Abbotsford area. We would like teens (12-18 years of age) to submit photographs on the matter of death: death, dying, or bereavement. Photographs could be of a place, person, object, and/or abstract composition exploring absence/presence. We would like individuals to show us how death matters in Abbotsford, by depicting a visual memory, moment, or representation; reminder of mortality; or anything else that serves as a visual cultural piece for how death matters.

?The top ten will win exciting prizes and possibly have their photograph be part of another death matters event hosted by the Abbotsford Hospice Society (AHS).
