Indelible Moment
I am a bit of an impulse shopper. Sometimes I am a little ashamed of myself for having so many pairs of shoes, and clothing in my closet that’s been there for a while and I haven’t worn yet. My wine rack is another gathering place that causes me some moments of consternation because when I discover a shiny new bottle full of dazzling promise, I have to have it.
Thankfully, it is surprisingly easy to find a reason to open those coveted bottles of wine. The purchase of some fine steaks can be as much of an incentive to search through the cellar as the arrival of some cherished friends is. When you combine something every day with something extraordinary, you can make a special occasion happen.
Once you decide to open up a truly special bottle of Cabernet, Merlot, or Shiraz, pour it into a decanter to allow it to open up. Two hours should be enough for most big red wines. While the wine is unfolding to reveal itself, you can put together a plate of appies, toss a salad, roast some potatoes, and throw a few well seasoned steaks onto the grill. As you sit down to dine everything will align somehow, and you will find that you have created an experience where the food tastes better because you are having it with an outstanding glass of wine, and the wine will be even more delicious because it’s been paired with just the right fare.
This now becomes a lasting memory; this is your own indelible moment.
