(by Amelia John and The Canadian Press)  The teenager accused of killing four people and injuring seven others in La Loche, Saskatchewan has been remanded to a youth facility.

The 17-year-old appeared before a packed courtroom today in Meadow Lake, about 270 kilometres south of La Loche.

He entered the court with shackles on his wrists and feet, wearing an orange jumpsuit. The boy looked down for most of his appearance and did not look at the gallery much. The gallery was packed with people from La Loche, including the mother of the accused.

He’s been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of attempted murder, and one of unauthorized possession of a firearm following Friday’s mass shooting.

RCMP say nine people were shot at the La Loche Community school. A teacher and a teacher’s aide died and seven others were wounded.

The bodies of two teenaged brothers were found at a nearby house.

The dead have been identified as teacher Adam Wood, 35, teaching aide Marie Janvier, 21, Drayden Fontaine, 13, and Dayne Fontaine, 17.

The judge has ordered a publication ban on identifying the accused or any of the surviving victims.

The teen will make a video appearance in court on February 22nd.
