It’s turning out to be a fabulously warm long weekend! If your plans are to stay close to home, then the Country 107.1 Wellness Team, presented by Davis Quality Meats, Greater Vancouver Zoo and Stattonrock Design & Build, has a few ideas for you to get out and get active this weekend! Of course, the most important thing for you to do is stay cool and hydrated! The heat will get to you if you don’t play it safe!

We’re noticing a trend – there are a lot of events with goats these days – mainly at Maan Farms and Estate Winery, but also at Taves Estate Cidery. Maan Farms has a Goat Yoga, Wine and Dine happening tonight (Friday, July 31) – you can spend an hour doing hatha goat yoga followed by a delicious curry bowl, samosa and pakora appetizer plate, strawberry tarts for dessert, and of course, a glass of Maan Farms Wine! This sounds fun and delicious. Nourish your mind and your body at this event! If ticket sell out for this event, there are a few more events happening this summer!

Over at Taves Estate Cidery, experience GOATERDAYS every Saturday and Sunday this summer! It’s a drive-in event where you can come out with the family or your Covid-19 bubble and watch the goats play on their new playground! You can grab some grain and feed them through tubes that go to their pens. Grab an Applebarn apple cider slushie from the tasting barn and some mini donuts, and sit and relax as you watch the goats play!

Also on Saturdays, is the Abbotsford Farm and Country Market. Find the best local vendors and fresh, real food every Saturday from 9AM to Noon in Jubilee Park. Check out their Facebook page every week to find out what vendors will be on site!

In Mission, tomorrow (Saturday) and every Saturday from 9AM to 1PM, there is the Mission City Farmers Market at the Welton Common Parking Lot, 7337 Welton Street. Find an an assortment of fresh produce, baking and other specialty foods.   Make sure to check out their Facebook Page to see which of your favourite Vendors will be at the market each week. If you want to sit in side and cool down in front of your air conditioner, they have an online store, as well!

Did you know that the baby bears bedtime is 3:30PM at the Greater Vancouver Zoo? Why not check it out for yourself! It’s a great weekend to take a stroll around the grounds of the zoo. The zoo is home to many rescued, donated and orphaned animals – and you can discover the sights and sounds of 140 species on 120 acres! The Greater Vancouver Zoo for the indefinite future will be a predominately one-way experience, clearly marked and outlined to ensure an easy, understandable, and fulfilling visit, which is fine with us, because that sounds safe! Follow the arrows, people!

Finally, what would summer be like without Abbotsford Agrifair?! Well, we won’t find out, because this weekend, Abbotsford Agrifair is putting on their Safari Drive-Thru experience!

Tickets are available on their website. You will need to purchase a time slot to attend. Fill your family in your vehicle and come to the Drive Thru Safari for $12.45 per vehicle ($15 inclusive of taxes and fees). Some of the confirmed Fair fun you will get to see will include:

  • Francine the Buffalo and Nancy the Bison with their Cattle & Calf friends roaming freely
  • See a Canadian Centurion MK3 Tank resting on car and a full military display
  • A 100-foot demolition derby car display
  • 4-H participants with the animals
  • Antique farm tractors and machinery
  • Goat hill, sheep, mini horses, donkeys and more
  • A 25-foot T-Rex
  • Large DUPLO build
  • Photo ops
  • PLUS FAIR FOOD AND FOOD TRUCKS!

It’s all the fun of the fair from the comfort of your air-conditioned vehicle, this is a drive thru not a drive in. Guests must remain in their vehicle for this safari.

Each vehicle will receive a Goodie Bag upon entry. Some confirmed goodies include:

  • two passes to the 2021 Agrifair (a $24 value),
  • recipes from sponsors,
  • Lego, promotions, and coupons supporting shop local,
  • menus from the food trucks and more.

At the end of your tour have your photo taken under a Safari balloon arch that says, “Agrifair  2020”. We will post it to Agrifair Facbook for your entry in to the Agrifair big draw.

Check it out, and support our local fair that has been entertaining us every summer for as long as we can remember (and longer!)

And, if you still want to get out and get active – if you’re planning on staying home, get that kiddie pool out, blow up that floaty, slather on the sunscreen and float in the pool. We guarantee that will be refreshing and likely something you won’t think about doing next year! Or, check out a local waterpark or spraypark with your family, go on a hike, to the beach, just take in all that our beautiful Fraser Valley has to offer! Just remember, please be safe, keep your distance and have a great weekend with family and your bubble!
