The Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival has come to an end, after 25 years of hosting the grand event.

The event has been an enormously popular event, bringing in people from all over, but with the current pandemic and safety guidelines, organizers of the event have decided it is time to end the event, for good.

However, the eagles will still return each fall, and the “festival” is now a self-guided adventure for eagle-enthusiasts.

On their website, The Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival Society state:

“Due to the negative impact of bringing so many well-intentioned people to the area over a single weekend the festival will no longer be operating the same way. The “Festival” will now be a self-guided adventure.

After 25 years of creating an awareness of the importance of the area and how we all can work together to protect the wildlife and the environment, the festival has ended. The popularity of the event brought thousands of people over the two-day weekend to an area that is not designed to accommodate such crowds. The last thing the Society wanted was to negatively impact the area we had worked so hard to protect and preserve so the decision was made to end the organized event in 2020.”

The society suggests that we continue to enjoy the eagles from October to January by visiting the area, watching the live cams at Hancock Wildlife Foundation, or taking a jet boat tour into the estuary with one of the tour companies, Harrison Eco Tours and Shoreline tours and doing tours down the river to see the eagles. You can also view them from Sandpiper Resort.
